151<>Suikyo-tei<>As far as restaurants and bars go, Suikyo-tei boasts one of the most interesting interiors in Tokyo. "Suikyo-tei" can loosely be translated as "ring of water," a concept that has been widely applied to the establishment's design. Water cascades gently down the wall near the main dining area and a computer-generated graphic of flowing water is projected on the floor. The overall serenity of Suikyo-tei is further enhanced with fish tanks that are located in the lounge bar. It's about as close as you can get to relaxing under water without getting wet. On the food front, Suikyo-tei offers European dishes that utilize the very best of local ingredients. In keeping with the underlying theme, the menu is again based on the concept of "water" and each ingredient has been specifically chosen to bring out a particular flavor. A la carte highlights include Smoked Cochin Chicken from Nagoya (¥900), Rolled Cabbage of Pork from Kanagawa (¥1,400) and Special Porkchop from Miyazaki (¥2,800), while dinner courses cost ¥6,000, ¥7,000 and ¥9,000 respectively. After dinner, head to the lounge bar and relax with a vintage local whiskey, premium international malt or fresh fruit cocktail. If you are seeking a little intimacy, two private rooms seating four to 20 people are available on request.

With a dynamic kitchen that makes confident use of market-fresh ingredients according to the season, Hibiki's food is 100 percent organic, with absolutely no chemicals used in the growing process. Later, finish your meal in similar fashion with Ishigama-daki rice (¥980 for two people), a renowned strain of rice from Niigata that is lovingly boiled in a stone cauldron. Mouth-watering morsels of ocean-fresh sashimi can be ordered from ¥1,000, while course menus are available from ¥4,000. Fu-tei, which is located in Akasaka Intercity next to the US Embassy, is especially popular with people working for foreign organizations based in Tokyo. <>1<>32<>2<> 163<>Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.<>Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. is a shrimp restaurant inspired by the 1994 classic Hollywood blockbuster Forrest Gump. Perhaps not surprisingly, the menu at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. is based around seafood items, particularly shrimp, but it also contains standard restaurant fare such as ribs, steak, burgers, salads and sandwiches. The restaurant's layout is simple but effective, offering both table and booth seating in order to meet various dining arrangements. Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.'s main feature is a sizable fishing net that has been dangled from the ceiling, giving the establishment the feel of a poky little fishing joint with not a high-rise in sight. Even if you are impressed by the slightly rustic interior, you can guarantee that it won't be long before your thoughts turn to food. The extensive menu at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. has been cleverly designed in line with the thematic dining concept, and includes such quirky delights as Popcorn Shrimp (¥945), Mama Blue's Southern Charmed Fried Shrimp (¥1,890) and Shrimper's Net Catch (¥2,205). <>5<>22<>1<> 167<>Soba GIRO<>Soba Giro is yet another example of the exceptional fusion of Japanese and Italian cuisine we have come to expect from Y's table, one of the capitalÕs leading restaurant corporations. In this particular venture, producer Panzetta Girolamo combines years of local experience, a flair for creation and a love of all things al dente to ensure Japanese soba remains in step with the changing times. You thought soba was a one-dimensional dish primarily consisting of cold noodles dipped in soy sauce? Think again. Soba Giro offers delightful contemporary interpretations such as Sarashina Soba (served with two kinds of sauces) and Bocconcini Chawan-mushi, a savory steamed egg custard delight. Girolamo adds the authentic taste of imported Italian cheese where appropriate, delivering a meal that stands out above the rest. The restaurant itself is dimly lit and softly minimalist in its design. The mood is subtle and reminiscent of Italy's southern regions. <>11<>26<>1<> 207<>Fonda de la Madrugada<>While Tokyo boasts a seemingly endless number of restaurants offering every type of cuisine imaginable, it can sometimes be difficult to find an establishment that is truly authentic. This isn`t the case with Fonda de la Madrugada, which many claim is more Mexican than Mexico. Tableside appearances by wandering Mariachi bands or visiting guitar trios add to the atmosphere, setting the scene for an exciting evening of entertainment. Traditional Mexican food dominates the menu. The Queso Fundido (Mexican cheese fondue) is highly recommended as a starter, while the delectable La Sabana (beef steak with avocado, beans and melted cheese) stands head and shoulders over the other main items on offer, which all cost around ¥2,310. To finish, don`t forget to try the Leche Frita con Tequila, a milk-based dessert in a powerful flaming tequila sauce. <>3<>7<>2<> 301<>INAKAYA GINZA<>Most upmarket restaurants in Japan these days prefer to keep the kitchen separated from the main dining areas in order to convey a sense of sophistication. This certainly isn't the case at Inakaya Ginza, which goes so far as to present the daily menu in the form of fresh produce that has been procured from the local market. Known as robatayaki, this style of Japanese cooking takes visitors right back to their roots. Two chefs sit behind a wooden counter and prepare orders as they come in, adding a boisterous "kashikomari mashita!" (Yes Sir!) for good measure upon receiving a request. All dishes are prepared, cooked and presented in front of you. Inakaya opened its first branch in Roppongi 40 years ago, but this is the restaurant's first foray into Tokyo's famous shopping area. Turning to the menu, highlights include Assorted Sashimi (¥1,450~), which comprises the best selection of fish from nearby Tsukiji market, Red Snapper (¥4,100), Skewered Prime Sirloin Beef (¥4,700, two skewers per portion). An average bill including drinks would be around ¥15,000 per person. A quick walk around the perimeter of this kitsch lounge bar and you get the feeling producer Shinichiro Hosokawa and Wonderwall guru Masamichi Katayama had real fun when coming up with the concept of this place. Aiming to capture the multifarious atmosphere of a cabaret lounge, the creators have given the interior a decidedly "edgy" feel, whether you are running your fingers over the impressive paint job on the walls or peering through the frosted cinema-esque window that overlooks a quiet Aoyama back street. Located in Shinjuku and Jiyugaoka, the two stores bearing the 2003 championfs name offer visitors an exclusive range of coffee extracted from high-grade beans that have been roasted at the right temperature in a tightly controlled environment. Quality control is of the utmost importance, and Paul Bassett roasts its beans twice a week to ensure freshness. Paul says he wants to transform the typical image of coffee as a mere caffeinated drink. Paul's coffee offers richness and pleasant aftertaste, not an overly sweetened coffee designed to compete with mass marketed Seattle-based coffees. French culinary artist Patrick Henriroux has been brought in to advise the kitchen, revise the menus, and pass on knowledge he is currently introducing at La Pyramide, the renowned two-star restaurant in Vienne, France, that produced such culinary heavyweights as Paul Bocuse and the Troisgros brothers. The course menus are highly recommended for anyone who has trouble choosing their dishes. The private dining rooms include three intimate booth tables that are appropriate for both business meetings and family gatherings. The largest private dining room seats a maximum of 20 people, making it the largest private dining room in all Grand Hyatt Tokyo restaurants. The room overlooks the main dining room through four glass walls, with three bookshelves positioned in between to create a warm and cozy atmosphere. CHINAROOM serves authentic Dim Sum with an all-you-can-taste "Touch of Heart" menu during lunch (¥4,500 per person). Traditional dishes from the four great regions - Canton, Peking, Shanghai and Szechuan - include favorites such as Drunken Live Shrimps, Peking Duck, Suckling Pig and whole steamed seasonal fish kept in the fish tank covering one entire wall of the kitchen area. Enjoy authentic Chinese dishes based on premium ingredients that are hand-picked by passionate chefs in a stylish ambience.
